Over the past 21 years, HGL has worked extensively
with several arms of government to research and develop
business improvement programmes for small firms nationally.
These include:
Construction Skills (formerly the CITB)
HGL has run over 1,000 business improvement programmes for SME
construction firms since 2005. We have worked closely with
representatives from ConstructionSkills to ensure these companies
have access to all the grants to which they were eligible
Investors in People
HGL worked to develop the Investors in People Standard with the
Department of Education and Employment between 1990 and 1992.
From 1992 onwards we have helped over 7000 business through to
IIP recognition and also published the "Impact of People
Development on Financial Performance" study
on behalf of IIP UK in 2001.
Department of Trade and Industry
HGL published the "Best Practice Guide to Business
Development" on behalf of the DTI in 2004.
Train to Gain
Between 2004 and 2005 HGL recruited 3000 employees into the '
Workplace Learners for Employer Training Pilot'. A scheme aimed
at getting skills and training into under skilled areas of the
workforce that went on to become national policy.
The Learning and Skills Council
HGL compiled government strategy for 3 regional and sector
skills plans between 2003 and 2004, effectively setting government
policy for learning and development in these areas.
Between 1998 and 2004 HGL ran a major consultation with 600 CEOs
to assist the development of LSC regional development plans.
Department for Education and Skills
In 2005 HGL ran the pilot scheme for the Leadership and Management
Initiative.
Business Link
HGL acted as the major recruiter and facilitator for the Plato
and Learning Champions Projects in 2003. These projects were aimed
at getting larger firms to help smaller firms by sharing facilities,
knowledge and skills.
